National Conference on Green Practices 2016!As the world’s population edges towards 8 billion, the strain on the earth’s limited resources is alarmingly increasing. In Sri Lanka, with the recent economic growth and development, there is a growing demand for land, raw materials, food, amenities, manufactured goods and fossil fuels. Over the past few years, it has become obvious that the accelerating needs of developing populations and the products of human manufacture, even those produced to benefit society, exerts negative effects on the environment. The concept of green practices for sustainable development was invented with the intention of meeting human development demands while conserving the finite natural resources for the future generations, preserving the integrity, stability and beauty of the planet earth.
As a responsible higher educational institution, understanding the above, the Staff Development Centre of the University of Kelaniya has decided to conduct a one day conference on the theme “Institutionalizing Green Practices: Green for Growth” which will provide an excellent platform to bring together researchers, academic, policy makers and industry to share the latest developments in the field. What is unique about the conference is that it will focus on the multiple aspects of green concept including reducing consumption, recycling resources, reducing waste generation, promoting actions to minimize pollution and conserving of energy, water and biodiversity bringing together a broad spectrum of interested parties. |
